My Background
A bit of my path…I received my masters degree in psychology from California State University, Northridge and my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University. After completing my clinical internship at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services, a leader in community mental health treatment in Los Angeles, I stayed on, working with the Full Service Partnership and ultimately becoming an interdisciplinary team leader.
I have extensive experience working therapeutically with adults, both individually and in groups. I have worked with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorders, relationship problems, psychotic disorders and personality disorders. My diverse and lengthy work experience has heightened my appreciation of the unique gifts each person contains within them.
Central to my clinical work is cultural humility and an intention to create an inclusive space that welcomes and celebrates diversity and uniqueness in all its forms while recognizing the intergenerational trauma caused by the realities of structural racism and white supremacy. Core to my values is my ongoing exploration of my own cultural identity, biases, world views, and layers of privilege as a cis-gendered white woman.
Humanistic and mindfulness-based therapeutic approaches have always resonated with me. I've found that something luminous emerges in the spaces of deep connection that sometimes occurs in therapy, which Martin Buber calls the "I-thou" encounter. From this space of connection, my goal is to guide people towards greater authenticity and meaning in their lives.
Practicing from a Rogerian, client-centered framework took on new meaning as I immersed myself in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a body based talk therapy. Learning the skills to guide people toward mindfulness and help clients uncover pathways to trauma processing and integration opened a new depth in my clinical practice. Sensorimotor Psychotherapy requires deep attunement, mutual trust, and a genuinely client-centered approach, as the body's wisdom is co-discovered by therapist and client alike. Working in this way has enlivened my practice as the spaciousness and depth of the work reveal the strength, courage, wisdom, and wholeness of the individuals with whom I work.
